Simon Cowell to Girish And The Chronicles: ‘Welcome to AGT’

Ukhrul, June 5: There are bands. There are rock bands. And then there’s Girish And The Chronicles, a powerhouse of rock / metal band from the Indian state of Sikkim that has just stormed the stage of America’s Got Talent Season 20, earning a standing ovation from the audience and judges.

Crossing continents to reach the famed talent competition, GATC best-known songs for “Rock The Highway”, “Ride To Hell,” “Hail to the Heroes,” and “Rock ‘n’ Roll Is Here To Stay,” the quartet delivered a blistering rendition of Adele’s Set Fire to the Rain, infused with their signature rock ‘N’ roll intensity. The result? A wave of cheers from the crowd and praise from the judges’ panel, Howie Mandel, Sofía Vergara, Mel B, and the ever-critical Simon Cowell.

Led by frontman Girish Pradhan, the band — composed of Yogesh Pradhan on bass, Suraz Karki on lead guitar, and Nagen Mongrati on drums — hails from the Nepalese Newar community and has carved a niche in India’s independent music scene since its formation in 2009. Their AGT debut marks a global milestone.

“You guys look amazing, sound amazing, the whole audition was on point,” said Sofía Vergara, visibly awed.

Mel B followed up with heartfelt enthusiasm: “I don’t know what it is about you, but I think you’re one of my favorite acts of the season.”

Then came Howie Mandel, offering his trademark mix of wit and warmth. “I do like this kind of rock,” he said. “You came from the other side of the globe to do something so traditionally American, and it was beautiful.” He ended his comments with the universal rock salute.

But it was Simon Cowell who delivered the most impactful verdict. Often reticent with praise, Simon Cowell leaned into the moment.

“You can’t fake a reaction like that,” he said, gesturing toward the roaring audience. “We liked you. They liked you. And your voice — it’s really, really good.”

Four emphatic yeses sealed the moment. GATC was in.

Terry Crews, the show’s charismatic host, was characteristically warm in his support. But it was the band’s performance that lit up the room, a rare display of musical and cultural fusion that showcased not only talent, but identity.

Offstage, the band shared a brief, jubilant exchange with Terry, a moment fans can catch in full via this link CLICK ME.

For fans across India, and especially the often-overlooked Northeast, the message is clear: Girish And The Chronicles are no longer just local legends. They’re playing on the world’s biggest stage.

“All the very best, GATC. The nation is watching, and cheering you on!”
