The village secretary informed Ukhrul Times that the attack took place at midnight, around 12:10 AM. Fortunately, there were no casualties. He mentioned that the attack originated from the direction of Leplen’s cemetery, located approximately 270 meters from the village. Additionally, he reported that the Maha Regiment, which had previously been stationed in the village, had departed, and that the Manipur Rifles are currently responsible for guarding the village.

“Despite the sustained efforts of the Government of Manipur, 131 Battalion of Border Security Force, Manipur Rifles, and police stationed at Sinakeithei to restore and maintain normalcy, the Kuki militants continue to disregard these efforts and repeatedly provoke and threaten the peace and security of the innocent Naga villagers,” he stated.

Another source indicated that the gunfire took place near the security forces stationed in Sinakeithei and nearby Kuki villages. In response to the incident, villagers have raised security concerns and urged authorities to investigate the firing, take action to protect civilians, and prevent further violence.

Notably, Sinakeithei, a Tangkhul Naga village, borders several Kuki villages and has been significantly affected by the ongoing Kuki-Naga conflict. The village has faced repeated attacks from alleged Kuki militants.
