Sleuths of Imphal Customs Division Arrest Two Alleged Drug Peddlers with Rs 15 Cr Worth of Brown Sugar

Imphal, March 19: Sleuth of the anti-smuggling unit of Imphal Customs Division arrested two alleged drug peddlers with the seizure of three kg of brown sugar worth over Rs 15 crore in the international market, an official statement said on Tuesday.

The arrested persons were identified as Abdul Rahaman (42) of Imphal East district and Md Feijuddin (38) of Thoubal district, it stated.

They were arrested along with the contraband drugs from Kongba Kshetri Leikai near Standard College in Imphal East during operation acting on specific information on Monday, around 3.30pm, an official statement of the Imphal Customs Division said.

It said that the officers of the division intercepted the two individuals and led to the seizure of three kg of brownish powder suspected to be of brown sugar, the official statement released by deputy commissioner Rajivkumar Yengkhom of Customs Division, Imphal said.

The drugs packed in three packets were formally seized from their possession on the same day at about 4.30 pm after registering a case under case No. 06/CUNDPS/CUS/DPF/DC1/2023-24 dated 18.03.2024, the press release added.

The estimated value of the seized contraband in the international market is said to be Rs 15 crore, it added.

The arrested individuals were charged under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.
Further investigation is going on to nab the other offender(s) of the case, the official statement further added.
