St. Joseph College Students Conduct Cleanliness Drive in Ukhrul Town

Ukhrul, June 22: Demonstrating exceptional community spirit and environmental commitment, NSS volunteers and the 65 (M) Girls NCC Battalion of St. Joseph College, Ukhrul, conducted a cleanliness drive at Gandhi Chowk and Ava Market. This initiative aimed to enhance public hygiene and environmental awareness in these bustling areas.

The event began early, with over 50 volunteers equipped with cleaning tools assembling at Gandhi Chowk. Volunteers meticulously cleaned streets, sidewalks, and public spaces, effectively managing and disposing of waste. At Ava Market, they focused on litter removal and cleaning clogged drainage.

Masopam Kasar, P.O. NSS, who led the cleanliness drive, highlighted the objective of fostering civic responsibility among the youth. “We aim to inspire similar actions across communities,” he remarked. Chonchui Magdalene CS, CTO, NCC, emphasized the educational benefits, noting the practical lessons in teamwork and community service among the students.

The cleanliness drive was conducted with the support and approval of Deputy Commissioner Zuringla Kengoo and the Small Town Committee, ADC. They provided hand sanitizers and masks to the students.

The success of this drive has set the stage for regular cleanliness initiatives in Ukhrul, reinforcing the commitment to environmental responsibility. The event concluded with a sense of achievement and a renewed dedication to a cleaner, greener future.
