Ukhrul, July 18: St. Joseph College, Ukhrul, took a significant step forward in advancing regional scholarship with the inauguration of the Centre for North-East Development and Policy Research (CNEDPR) on Friday.
The Centre, set up under the Department of Political Science, aims to be a pioneering platform for research, policy advocacy, and capacity-building focused on the socio-economic and cultural dimensions of North-East India.

Rev. Father Dr. Parvis John, Principal of St. Joseph College, officially inaugurated the Centre, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and its role in addressing broader societal challenges. Speaking at the event, he described the CNEDPR as an important step towards bridging the gap between academic inquiry and policy implementation in the region.
The launch of CNEDPR is envisioned to serve as a hub for shaping regional discourse and addressing developmental challenges through research-based solutions, in collaboration with diverse stakeholders including tribal communities, government institutions, civil society, and academic bodies.

According to Dr. Mungreishang Horam, Head of the Department of Political Science and Director of CNEDPR, the Centre’s mission is to generate region-specific knowledge and foster constructive dialogue on issues shaping the North-East. The Centre will also work closely with national and international agencies, and plans to publish regular reports, policy briefs, research papers, and articles, as well as host seminars and workshops on relevant themes.
