St. Joseph College, Ukhrul Successfully conducted Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2025

Ukhrul, March 21, 2025: The Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2025 was successfully conducted on 18th–19th March 2025 at St. Joseph College, Ukhrul, which served as the host Nodal institute at the district level. The competition was held on the topic “One Nation, One Election: Paving the Way for Viksit Bharat.” The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 150 selected candidates representing Ukhrul and Kamjong Districts. These participants engaged in competitive deliberations and discussions on the significance, feasibility, and challenges of implementing simultaneous elections across India, showcasing their leadership, analytical, and public speaking abilities.

Following a rigorous selection process, the top 10 participants were chosen to represent the district at the State Level competition. The selected candidates are Lepsopthei Kasar, Teresa Kashung, Nimmichon Showungnao, Standhope Shimray, Dominic Nganzoyo, Oksemmi Sareo, Kahoryui Awungshi, Sopei Vashum, Nisung Rimai, and Jacinta Awung Shimray. These individuals exhibited exceptional oratory skills, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of governance and policy matters, earning them the opportunity to compete at the next level.

The inaugural function of the event took place on 18th March 2025 and was graced by Asish Das, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Fr. Parvis John, Principal of St. Joseph College, Ukhrul, welcomed all the dignitaries and delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the significance of youth participation in governance and democratic processes. The function was further honored by the presence of distinguished Special Guests, including the Vice President of Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), the President of Hunphun Katamnao Long, and the Vice President of Tangkhul Shanao Long. Their insightful speeches highlighted the importance of constructive debates and policy discussions in shaping the future of the nation.

The closing ceremony, held on 19th March 2025, marked the successful conclusion of the two-day event. Rev. Fr. Joseph Thohrii, Vice Principal of St. Joseph College, Ukhrul, welcomed the dignitaries and delivered the welcome address, expressing appreciation for the participants’ dedication and enthusiasm. Ringthing Hongchui, Additional Superintendent of Police, Ukhrul, presided over the ceremony as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by Special Guests including Thaimei Badan, Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) of Ukhrul, the Secretary of Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL), the President of Raphei Katamnao Long, and the President, THYSO. Their presence and words of encouragement motivated the participants to continue their journey towards excellence in leadership and governance.
