St Xavier’s College, Maram Khunou, Senapati District observed International Women’s Day, 2021. The event which was organized by the Women Cell of the college under the theme “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID- 19 World”, was graced by Koshia Mao, Addl. Public Prosecutor/ Addl. Govt. Advocate Govt. of Manipur and Dr Thao Barou, Senior Specialist District Hospital, Senapati along with the Principal, the Vice-Principal and other faculty members of the college.
In his welcome speech, Rev Dr Fr. William Nepuni, Principal of the college avouched the significant role of women in the society. While adverting on the issue of equal opportunities, crime and domestic violence in the society, Koshia Mao, Addl. Public Prosecutor/ Addl. Govt. Advocate Govt. of Manipur prompted the gathering about the social injustice of women in a patriarchal society emboldening the entire congregation to follow and work hard on their dreams and passion. Briefing the history of women’s day, Dr Thao Barou, Senior Specialist District Hospital, Senapati, imparted the eminence of physical, spiritual, mental and emotional well being of an individual.
As the campaign theme for International women’s day, 2021 writes “Choose to Challenge” the students of the college painted the vibrant differentia of muliebrity with their resounding performance thereby accelerating the climax of the event while abiding by the protocols of COVID-19.
Speaking on the first Women’s day celebration organized in the college, Miss Helen Khole, lecturer and a member of the organizing committee stated, “ “Every day is a great day to celebrate the amazing women in your life, but International Women’s Day gives an extra reason to celebrate it.”
Concluding the momentous event, Miss A. Athia Ridzu, lecturer and a member of the organizing committee while exhilarating on the theme stated, “Let us choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Together, let us choose to create an inclusive world”.
