UKHRUL: Manipur governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh attended the State-level observance of Kargil Vijay Diwas held at the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Imphal, on Sunday to commemorate India’s victory in the 1999 Kargil War and honour the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor paid tribute to the courage and supreme sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces, recalling the valour of the Kargil heroes who defended the country’s sovereignty. He also acknowledged the armed forces’ continued commitment to national security, including their recent role in Operation Sindoor, and paid homage to the Veer Naris and Veer Matas for their strength and sacrifice.
Describing Kargil Vijay Diwas as a symbol of patriotism, sacrifice and national pride, the Governor urged people to honour the martyrs and support their families. He encouraged the youth of Manipur to draw inspiration from the armed forces and serve the nation with discipline, dedication and patriotism. He further emphasised that national security is a shared responsibility and called for strengthening peace, harmony and national integration.

Chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh also paid homage to the Kargil martyrs, saying the nation salutes the unparalleled courage and patriotism of the Indian Armed Forces. Remembering the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War, he called upon the people to remain united in safeguarding the country’s unity and integrity. The chief minister also paid heartfelt tribute to the five martyrs from Manipur who laid down their lives in the Kargil War, stating that their sacrifice continues to inspire generations.
The programme featured patriotic performances by artistes of Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Government Music College, Imphal. MLAs, senior civil, military and police officials, ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, Veer Matas and families of martyrs attended the observance.
