STDC warns of intensified agitation on ST status demand for Meetei/Meitei

Imphal: Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee (STDC) Manipur on Saturday threatened intensified forms of protests as no positive response was received from the state government even after a week of series of sit-in-protest.

Reiterating their demand –Manipur government sending recommendation for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST lists of Indian Constitution, the STDC has been holding a series of sit-in-protests, resuming from August 27. Today, the protest was held at Kongba Bazar in Imphal East district. Locals of Kongba area also took part in the protest.

Speaking at the protest site, STDC secretary (organization) Irom Rajen said that as the state government remained silent despite the democratic form of protest, the committee is all set to intensify its protest.

He said that it will not be a right decision on the part of the state government to remain silent on the “more than 10 years old demand.”
