Ukhrul, Mar 6: The North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) and the Khasi Students Union (KSU) today locked the office of Vice Chancellor Prof PS Shukla as a mark of protest against his rejoining the university.

This came after Prof PS Shukla had recently claimed that he had resumed his duties as North Eastern Hill University vice chancellor on March 3.

The protesting student bodies also locked the gates of the university to ensure Prof Shukla is not allowed to enter the campus.

They have reiterated their demand for immediate removal of Prof Shukla, for allegedly being responsible for the ongoing crisis in the university.

Expressing concern, NEHUTA president Prof Lakhon Kma had said that, in the fifty plus years of the history of NEHU, there is no precedence of such a claim of resuming duty virtually when one has not rejoined from earned leave that Prof Shukla has been applying for since last three and a half months.  “The NEHUTA finds that such a claim is misplaced, and it betrays all procedures and rules of the University, especially in the context of an errant VC like Prof. P. S. Shukla, who brought NEHU down to the lowest by his wrongdoings, for which the inquiry was conducted,” Prof Kma alleged.
