‘Suwng Ethar Emhong’ of Liwa Sarei village, Chandel held

Chandel: The inauguration cum dedication program of Liwa Sarei main gate was held on 24th December, 2022 at the main entry point of the village. The dedication prayer was led by Upa Rev. Th. Rockson Monsang, former Youth Secratary MNBCA and Old Testament (OT) Bible Translator.

Upa Ts. Ngamtin, Chief of Liwa-Sarei and Upa G. Khartu, Pastor of Liwa-Sarei Baptist Church attended the traditional ‘Suwng Ethar Emhong’ meaning ‘ Erection of New Village Gate’ on the eve of Christmas. The dedication program was also attended by women church leaders, village authority leaders and elders of the village.

Upa Ts. Ngamtin in his short speech recount the history of Liwa-Sarei village and its establishment in present site since 1929 after migration from old Meeleen village because of conversion to Christianity. It’s a historic day in the sense that the village could erect the main village gate after many years by the grace of God. He concluded with the beautiful words written on the gate in local dialect ‘Kimberhiim Shanachuw’ meaning ‘Welcome’ and ‘No Na Noh’ meaning ‘Visit Again.’

It may be mentioned that Liwa-Sarei village in Chandel is one of the most guava fruit producing villages and guava festival is conducted almost every year in the village attracting visitors from Chandel and outside as well.
