In a condemnation note issued on Monday, the TNL Working Committee stated that the incident, which occurred around 1:45 PM, resulted in the deaths of two personnel: Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Rifleman CM Singh, both from the 40 Assam Rifles unit based in Shangshak.
“The Tangkhul community expresses its deep sorrow and frustration over this tragic event and extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased personnel,” stated the apex body of the Tangkhul community.
Furthermore, the TNL emphasized that, given the fragile and volatile situation in Manipur, today’s incident is of grave concern. “This deadly ambush has seriously undermined the efforts of Tangkhul civil society organizations (CSOs) to restore peace and normalcy in the conflict-affected State,” it remarked.

In addition, the TNL Working Committee called on the relevant authorities to conduct an immediate investigation to identify the perpetrators. It also stated that, with no group claiming responsibility for the attack, certain individuals are attempting to escalate tensions through speculation and blame-shifting. The TNL warned that such actions could jeopardize the fragile atmosphere of understanding, tolerance, and respect that has been cultivated among various sections of society.
