Targeting Christians During Christmas an Act of Intolerance: GNF

KOHIMA: The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has condemned in the strongest terms the harassment, intimidation, and attacks on Christians in various parts of India during the Christmas celebrations of 2025.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the GNF said, “Acts such as disrupting church services, vandalising Christmas decorations, and threatening peaceful celebrants, many of them women and children, are a direct assault on the spirit of Christmas and on the conscience of the nation”. The GNF added that these actions, reportedly carried out by extremist elements linked to the RSS and Bajrang Dal, are shameful and unacceptable.

The Naga body then said such conduct is a clear violation of Article 25 of the Constitution of India, which guarantees every citizen the freedom of conscience and the right to freely profess, practice, and propagate religion. “It also undermines the foundational values of equality, fraternity, and secularism enshrined in the Constitution”, the GNF further added.

Targeting Christians during their most sacred festival is not an act of patriotism; it is an act of intolerance, the GNF stated, adding, “A society that allows such intimidation to go unchecked risks normalising fear and eroding constitutional freedoms”.

The GNF then said it “stands in solidarity” with the Christian community and calls upon the Government of India and the concerned state authorities to act decisively, hold the perpetrators accountable, and ensure that no citizen is denied the right to celebrate their faith in peace.
