Tension in Kangpokpi dist village bordering Noney, three houses gutted, several injured

In a internal village crisis violence flare-up today that occurred at Pongringlong (Charoipandongba) village under Kangchup Geljang Sub – Division, Kangpokpi District, three houses including one shop were torched and completely gutted and other three vehicles were also completely burnt down and two vehicles were damaged. The owner of the house is identified as one Lanlimlung Panmei.

The unfortunate incident happened in the morning of Thursday at around 10:30 AM at Pongringlong village bordering Tupul bridge, Noney District. Owing to the volatile situation, movement in NH-37 was disturbed for some hours.

Three persons injured in the incident were identified as Lungsinthui Malangmei (42) S/o Lungthaongam Malangmei of Pongringlong village; Landimlung Malangmei (45) S/o Pouduanjei Malangmei of Pongringlong village and Moses Ruangmei (30) S/o Lungjaoni of Sangji Village were brought to Noney PHC and given first aid.

While the injured from the opponent side were identified as Kabisin Gangmei (17) S/o Gaikhanjang Gangmei of Pongringlong village; Pousinlung Panmei (28) S/o Lanlimlung Panmei of Pongringlong village, Sianchinglu Kamson (41) W/o Dimthuina Kamson of Pongringlong village and Gaithuanjang Daimei (32) S/o Jangonglung Daimei of Pongringlong village were brought down to RIMS for medical treatment.

It is said that the condition of Gaithuanjang Daimei is critical. Reports of several other persons including police personals injured in the violent incident which erupted between two parties have emerged.

It may be mentioned that both the district magistrates of Noney and Kangpokpi had already clamped prohibitory order under Section 144 of the CrPC since yesterday at Pongringlong (Charoipandongba) village and the whole area of Charoichagotlong (Tupul) bazaar given the high tension.

Top officials of the two districts rushed to the spot and subdued the situation. The Deputy Commissioner of Noney District Robert Singh Kshetrimayum and Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi District Somorjit Salam chaired a joint meeting with the DIG Range -III Shri S. Themthing and Angam Romania Kamei, DIG Range -IV, PG. Singsit SP/ Kangpokpi , Ningshem Vashum, SP/Noney and with the leaders of Joint Action Committee of peace and normalcy in Pongringlong village at Tupul Community Hall.

The situation is said to be under control. A high level joint meeting with the chief minister and the two parties will be convened on Monday, sources said.
