Th Brinda clarifies on viral audio controversy; says anguished over destruction of historical artifact in mob attack

Imphal: Former Manipur Additional SP, Thounaojam Brinda has issued a clarification regarding her recent viral audio clip over which an irate mob vandalised her residence on Monday.

In the audio clip which surfaced on social media on the intervening night of December 13 and December 14, Th Brinda allegedly accused ‘Arambai Tenggol’ of burning down Meitei houses in Torbung on May 3, the day Manipur ethnic violence erupted.

Addressing media on Monday evening, hours after her residence at Yaiskul Janmashtan, Imphal West District hours was ransacked by an irate mob, Th Brinda claimed that the recent viral audio clip was a part of a telephonic conversation which took place on October 3 this year. Stating that she had already tendered her apology twice in connection with her statements against Arambai Tenggol and Meetei Lipun/Meetei Leepun on the backdrop of Manipur violence, Th Brinda announced withdrawal of her words in the recent viral audio clip.

The former cop also expressed sorrow over the destruction of a chair that once belonged to her ancestor and a significant historical figure of Manipur, Bir Tikendrajit during the act of vandalism at her residence.

“As someone who truly loves Manipur, I am deeply saddened by the destruction of such historical artefact,” the former cop rued.
