The Morung Express Appoints Akangjungla as New Editor

UKHRUL, NOV 25: The Morung Express has appointed Akangjungla as its new Editor. She will assume full responsibility as Editor of The Morung Express beginning December 1, 2025, for an initial term of three years.

In an announcement made on Monday, Nagaland English news outlet said the consensus was reached following an intensive consultation process as part of an on-going evaluation.

“Akangjungla joined the The Morung Express team on June 1, 2007. Over the years she has gained considerable experience as a field reporter, sub-editor, assistant editor and an associate editor. Since November 1, 2017, she has been the Director of News and Administration,” the news outlet said.

The Morung Express further said that Akangjungla is a “dedicated and sincere journalist and media practitioner, Akangjungla was selected as one of ten journalists from South Asian Women in Media (India) for a field visit to Dhemaji, Assam which focused on documenting a UNICEF Assam-supported Risk-Adapted Programme in 2022. In 2024, she was selected to participate in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) exchange program to the United States, organised by the U.S. Department of State. She holds a BA in English and a PG Diploma in Mass Communication and Journalism.”

The announcement also added that the transition is part of The Morung Express commitment towards participatory and inclusive leadership, which is crucial in enabling a democratic and robust media ecosystem. “We are confident she will uphold the values of The Morung Express and adhere to the ethical principles and guidelines of a free and responsible press,” it added.
