UKHRUL, NOV 25: Prize Distribution Ceremony for the Open Competition Examination organised by the Hunphun Katamnao Long (HKL) was held at Zimik Central Plaza Conference Hall, Viewland Zone-1, Ukhrul. The event celebrated academic excellence among school students and underscored the importance of continuous learning in a rapidly changing world.

The open competition examination was conducted in the second week of November. Following the declaration of results, five top students each from Classes VI to X were awarded cash prizes and certificates, while ten students from each class received certificates as consolation prizes for their commendable efforts.

Speaking about the purpose of the initiative, Thotdharrin Shingnaisui, President of HKL, said, “The objective of this initiative is to foster academic excellence and enhance students’ learning capacity and examination preparedness.”

Chief Guest Asish Das, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, delivered an inspiring address, urging students to stay updated in the age of technology. “AI will never replace humans because human capabilities are unlimited. But the person learning AI will replace the person who doesn’t know AI. So you have to update constantly and fight against time constantly,” he said.

He further encouraged students to draw inspiration from recent milestones in the district. “For the first time in the history of Ukhrul district, we have a woman SP. Take inspiration from such firsts. If there is no role, you can build one. You can be the first person to reach there.”

Attending the ceremony as the Guest of Honour, Babitarani Swain, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Ukhrul, advised students to enjoy their student life while staying disciplined. She highlighted the importance of listening to and respecting parents, reminding them that strong values form the foundation of future success.

Esme Singh Shaiza, Miss Shirui Lily 2025 and Miss Friendship International Manipur 2025, as the special Guest congratulated the students for their passion and competitive spirit. She also voiced her concern over the underrepresentation of local communities in government offices.

“We have had great leaders from our community in the past, but it’s sad to see that every time we walk into an office, we hardly see officers from our own community,” she said, applauding HKL for initiating a programme that could help shape future leaders. She ended with a motivational quote by Samuel Beckett: “Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”

The short speech was followed by distribution of awards to the top achievers and presentation of certificates to the consolation prize recipients. The event concluded with a closing prayer by Dr. Ephriam Shaiza, Pastor of Phungyo Baptist Church (NTNBA), bringing the inspiring gathering to a meaningful end.
