DIMAPUR: On the news report headlined as “NSCN-IM: Nagas ready for fresh war”, the NSCN-IM clarified on Sunday that The Telegraph has “sensationalized” the report.

“It is understood that The Telegraph has sensationalized one particular sentence quoting from the Nagalim Voice August 2020 editorial: ‘They are still ready to fight another war if their political rights and history are not respected’ (in its news report titled: NSCN-IM: Nagas ready for fresh ‘war’) dated September 3, 2020 which went viral already on social media,” the NSCN-IM said in a statement.

The statement then said, “NSCN regrets the selective war mongering reportage of The Telegraph and NSCN condemns it with all sincerity”.

The NSCN-IM then said it put on record that “NSCN stands for peaceful solution of Indo-Naga political issue”. It further said, “That was the reason how the second Indo-Naga ceasefire was brought about in 1997”.

The NSCN-IM statement then said that “it is a matter of regret” that the Government of India has “failed” to demonstrate the desired sincerity and commitment despite 23 years of peace talks. “This is the crux of the ongoing talks,” it added.

The NSCN-IM then said the Government of India must revisit the “hard earned achievements” of the Indo-Naga peace process and push forward in the desired direction to bring a solution that is honorable and acceptable to both the parties.
