IMPHAL/UKHRUL: The Manipur People’s Party (MPP) has criticised the state government for failing to grant an appointment to its representatives for more than seven days despite submitting requests to meet the chief minister and the governor over the Nongshum incident.

Speaking at a press conference held at the MPP office, party spokesperson Dr. Seram Rojesh said the party had sought appointments with both the chief minister and the governor to raise concerns over the Nongshum incident. However, even after more than seven days, no appointment had been granted.
He said the delay reflected the government’s unwillingness to listen to the voice of the people and showed disrespect towards the MPP, which he described as the oldest regional political party in Manipur.
Rojesh reiterated the party’s and people’s demand for the closure of all Suspension of Operations (SoO) camps and the abrogation of the SoO agreement in connection with the Nongshum incident.

He questioned whether the seizure of Sinai Camp alone was sufficient when several other SoO camps remained operational. He also raised concerns over the possibility of further killings from other camps.
The MPP spokesperson further stressed the need for a concrete roadmap to ensure the safe resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in their respective homes.
On the government’s claim that free movement had been restored, Rojesh said the situation on the ground did not support the claim, as people continued to face difficulties travelling along roads without fear.
