Awungshi Jingo of Ukhrul under Junior boy's (2005-2006) 46 kg category emerged victorious defeating Huidrom Rishi Mangang of Imphal West, while Timreichon Kashomwoshi of Ukhrul lost to Sanabam Surmala Chanu of Bishnupur in youth women's (2003-2004) 48 kg bout 5/0.

Imphal: The Manipur Amateur Boxing Association opening ceremony of State Level Boxing Championship 2021 for III Youth Men began at 12:00 PM on November 28.

The final matches of 24 weight categories which included Junior (Boy), Junior (Girl), Sub Junior (Boy), Elite (Men), Elite (Women), Youth (Women) under the wight categories ranging from 40 kg to 63.5 kg was held at Khuman Lampak Boxing arena, Imphal.

The final bout of youth men’s 63.5 kg (2003-2004) final match, Musha Ahmed of Imphal East defeated Shamurallatpam Arjun Sharma of Bishnupur 5/0.

Final bout of youth women’s 63.5 kg (2003-2004) final match, Melody Kilong of Churachandpur defeated Kshetrimayum Silky Devi of Imphal West 3/2.

Meanwhile, Phaningmi Kapai of Ukhrul in the 54 kg category lost to Laishiram Nongshaba Singh of Bishnupur RSC (1).

The State Level Boxing Championship 2021 for III Youth Sunday was graced by IGP IK Muivah (IPS).

Speaking at the event as chief guest, IK Muivah said Manipur as a state has tremendous optimism and expectancy of high results in the area of sports. The flying colour in which boxers like Mary Kom, Sarita Devi and Dinku Singh’s achievements and others in the international arena wining many medals, the public think when the next Olympic medal will be won in boxing from the state.

IGP IK Muivah further said that many youngsters feel inspired to join boxing which is creating a large talent pool. Investment in coaches and infrastructure will lead to greater results.
