Three drug peddlers held with Rs 4 crore worth of drugs in Manipur

Imphal: Three alleged drug peddlers were arrested with drugs worth over Rs 4 crore in an intensified drive against illicit drug trafficking in Manipur. The three persons were arrested in two separate operations in Tengnoupal district in the last 24 hours, police said on Wednesday.

In one of the incidents, police said that a combined team of Tengnoupal police and Assam Rifles arrested an alleged drug peddler along with WY tablets worth over Rs 2 crore in the international market today. The arrested person has been identified as Jangkholun of Churachandpur district. He was arrested after a huge quantity of WY tablets packed in 10 bags was recovered from a Bolero he was driving was checked at Tengnoupal police check post along Imphal-Moreh section of NH-102 this morning, around 8 am, police also said. The Imphal-bound vehicle was coming from Moreh side.

Earlier, a team of Tengnoupal police arrested two alleged drug peddlers with a huge quantity of brown sugar and WY tablets during its routine frisking and checking at the same Tengnoupal police check post along NH-102 on Tuesday, around 4pm. The arrested persons have been identified as Lamkhohao Haokip and Lunthengin alias Lun Nehemiah Haokip of Churachandpur district.

The police arrested them after 55 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar and three bundles wrapped in black plastic packets containing suspected WY tablets were recovered from the Chevrolet Sail car they came with from Moreh side. They carried the drugs concealed in a well-schemed compartment at the back of the rear seat of the car, the police further said. The approximate value of the seized brown sugar and WY tablets would be Rs 1,57,40,000 and Rs 42,42,000 respectively, the police added.
