Three Facebook Page Admins Arrested for Abusive Content Against Manipur CM

Ukhrul: The Manipur Police have arrested three administrators of the Facebook page Manipur News Group 2024 for allegedly posting abusive and threatening content targeting Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren and his cabinet members.

The arrested individuals are Ningombam Dingku (22) from Lairongthel Mayai Leikai, Thoubal District; Malemnganba Laithangbam (21) from Kwakeithel Makha Leikai, Imphal West District; and Thongam Romen (39) from Keirak Mayai Leikai, Kakching District. They were presented before the Duty Magistrate in Imphal West and have been remanded to police custody for five days, starting Thursday, for further investigation.

According to reports, a post on the Facebook group by a user named Punshi Meenai called for violent action against the Chief Minister and his cabinet. The post, approved and published by the group’s administrators, resulted in their arrests.

Authorities are now investigating the identity of the user behind the Punshi Meenai account, as well as the motives and potential consequences of the content.
