Imphal, Dec 18: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) met the Manipur Governor today urging him to immediately bring normalcy and peace in the conflict-stricken Manipur.
It was a part of the “Chalo Raj Bhavan” protest organised by the Congress across the country over various issues. The MPCC team marched to the Raj Bhavan after congregating at Congress Bhawan. A commotion occurred in front of the state Congress office and Raj Bhavan as well, as the MPCC team took out the march.

A large number of security forces, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF), were deployed during the march to ensure that no untoward incidents took place. Traffic was disrupted at BT Road and in front of Raj Bhavan due to the march.
The MPCC team later submitted a memorandum to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. The memorandum raised various demands. “We would like to urgently draw your kind attention to immediately bring normalcy and peace by putting an end to the unprecedented ongoing turmoil in Manipur for the last 19 months,” read the memorandum to the Governor.
“As you are also aware Manipur continues to reel under an unprecedented crisis marked by continuous violence, including shootouts, curfews and widespread lawlessness. Numerous lives have been lost, and citizens face an uncertain future. Despite the severity of the crisis, the BJP-led governments, both at the Centre and in the state, have utterly failed to address or mitigate the situation,” it read.

“Shockingly, the Prime Minister has yet to visit Manipur, while the utterly inept Chief Minister still clings to power, further highlighting the indifference towards this dire situation. We, therefore, strongly urge you for your immediate intervention to our demands,” the memorandum read.
It demanded immediate re-settlement of all the internally displaced persons back to their original homes in their respective localities, specially secured arrangement of movement of citizens between districts in the entire state so that communities in Manipur can freely move from valley to the hills and vice-versa, urgent need to instil the sense of security from the state to the people of Manipur, and urgent need to bring normalcy and peace in the state.
The memorandum further strongly urged the Governor for his sincere and immediate efforts in bringing an end to the ongoing turmoil in the state in the larger interests of the people of Manipur and the nation.

After submitting the memorandum the MPCC team met with the Governor at the Raj Bhavan. The team comprised MPCC president K Meghachandra CWC member Gaikhangam, Deputy CLP leader K Ranjit, MPCC chief whip Th Lokeshwar, general secretaries O Surjakumar and S Jeeten, former MLAs Kh Loken, E Dwijamani, Samuel Jendai and Md. Amin Shah, party’s working president Md Fajur Rahim, vice presidents Tilotama Loitongbam and Hareshwar Goshwami, spokespersons N Bhupenda and Rabi Khan.
MPCC president Keisham Meghachandra briefed the media at the Raj Bhavan gate after the meeting with Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya.
“The Governor gave us a patient hearing during the meeting. We told him that the Centre and the state government have failed to bring a solution to the over 19-month-old crisis till date. It has become nearly impossible for the public as well as the MLAs to live now in the state. The peace efforts have proved challenging”, he reiterated.

The MPCC team further told the Governor that the peace efforts have totally failed and there’s no sign of possibility to bring the two warring groups to the negotiating table, Meghachandra added.
