IMPHAL/UKHRUL: Three women protesters sustained injuries after police fired tear gas shells and stun grenades to disperse protesters at Khurai Lamlong Bridge on Wednesday, as they attempted to march towards a function venue at Khuman Lampak attended by chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh.

The protesters were opposing the chief minister’s participation in the function, stating that holding such an event was inappropriate at a time when the state was grieving the deaths of three people and injuries to others in the Sanalok Hill (Khongbal Killings) attack on Monday.

Police resorted to tear gas shells and stun grenades as protesters attempted to march towards the function venue. Despite the police action, a large number of people continued their protest in the Lamlong area, expressing anger over the attack and the prevailing situation in Manipur.
