TNL and COCOMI settles May 24 mob incident with Tangkhul Customary Law

Ukhrul: Tangkhul apex body, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has resolved the mob assault case of May 24 involving four Tangkhul women on Saturday at Wunghon Village.

The TNL and COCOMI in the presence of the victim’s family members have settled the unfortunate incident as per the Tangkhul Customary Law. The COCOMI on behalf of the mob presented the necessary settlement deed according to the customary law as per the request of the Tangkhul Naga Long.

Tangkhul Naga Long president David K Shimray said that the customary law was a necessary action and that he appreciated the COCOMI for coming forward.

While urging all in the state to maintain peace among the communities, David Shimray said that the prevailing conflict is due to the failure of state government. He urged the government to implement National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur immediately.

COCOMI Media Coordinator, Somorendro TH in the presence of the elders presented the apology on behalf of the unruly mob of May 24, as per the Tangkhul customary law, and later expressed his gratitude for accepting the apology.

The signing of the compromise deed ceremony was also attended by chairman Tangkhul Naga Aze Longphang Shomi Angkang, chairman Tangkhul Naga Ato Longphang Dearson Chamroy, parents and family of the victims, Ngaraipam R Shimray and Wunghon chairman Turner Raihing

The compromise ceremony ended with a common pork feast as a mark of reconciliation, and paying of compensation to the victims.
