UKHRUL: The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), the apex body of the Tangkhul Community, has expressed outrage over the ongoing attacks by ‘Kuki narco-terrorists’ along National Highway 202, the Imphal-Ukhrul Road, and the inaction of the security forces stationed there. These attacks have resulted in one fatality and left another person injured today.
In a press release, the TNL Working Committee condemned the relentless violence and blatant criminal behavior exhibited by Kuki narco-terrorist groups, highlighting their complete disregard for human life. The committee also expressed disappointment regarding the repeated inaction and apparent indifference of the Central Security Forces deployed in the area, which, they argue, has emboldened these groups to carry out attacks without fear of repercussions.

“Today, 29 May 2026, at around 11:00 AM, Kuki narco-terrorists, positioned between Yaolen and Mongkot Chetpu, opened indiscriminate fire on FCI trucks transporting essential goods along NH-202. In this brazen attack, carried out in full view of security forces, Mr. Nitis Kumar (57), a truck driver from Hooghly District, West Bengal (FO Truck No. WB15C/2403), was tragically shot dead. Additionally, Mr. Disingam Mringmei (35), a member of the Manipur Police from Litan Post, sustained serious injuries,” it reported.
The committee reported that before this incident, the same group of Kuki narco-terrorists had fired upon TM Kasom villagers who were peacefully digging graves for a burial ceremony. “Video evidence of this despicable act exists and will speak for itself, regardless of any attempts by the Kuki groups to deflect blame. This offensive action demonstrates their utter disregard for the sanctity of death and funeral rites. Meanwhile, heavy gunfire was directed at Litan, forcing residents to flee their homes amidst a barrage of bullets,” the statement noted.

The Working Committee strongly condemned the Central Security Forces stationed between Litan and TM Kasom for their ongoing silence and failure to take action, even in the face of these coordinated attacks. Their inaction raises serious and troubling questions about their commitment and effectiveness. The public is now left wondering whether the security forces are mere bystanders or, worse, complicit in permitting these atrocities to continue,” it added.
Additionally, the TNL Working Committee pointed out that for over three months, Kuki narco-terrorists have illegally blocked NH-202, openly extorting civilians and using the area between Yaolen and Mongkot Chetpu as a shooting range for their reckless activities, despite numerous pleas and condemnations directed at both the State and Central Governments.

The committee demands that both the State and Central Governments immediately fulfill their constitutional obligation to protect innocent citizens, clear the highway, eliminate the narco-terrorist threat, and restore normalcy. “Any further loss of life resulting from continued inaction will rest entirely on the shoulders of the authorities responsible, who will be held accountable,” they warned.
