UKHRUL: The “indefinite total shutdown” imposed on Wednesday along National Highway-202 by the Working Committee of Kuki CSO Ukhrul (WCKCSO) drew sharp criticism from the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL).
Referring to the outbreak of the conflict on February 7, 2026, TNL alleged that members of the Kuki community, backed by “militants under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact and illegal migrants,” restricted the free movement of Tangkhul Nagas along the Imphal–Ukhrul–Kamjong stretch of National Highway-202 while pressing their demands before the Manipur government.
TNL further alleged that, following the state government’s failure to fulfil the demands raised by Kuki civil society organisations based in Ukhrul, the groups had “attempted to shift the blame to the Tangkhul Nagas who were inhumanely oppressed in the present conflict.”
The organisation also claimed that the Kuki groups were “illegal” and “self-styled,” questioning the authority they allegedly exercised in matters concerning the state. It further questioned whether Manipur was being run by such groups and sought a response from the Khemchand-led government.
