NEW DELHI/UKHRUL, SEP 3: The Tangkhul Naga Society Delhi (TNSD) organised a conference-cum-All Naga Volleyball Championship in memory of late Grinder Muivah, with the one-day conference held at Shankarlal Auditorium, University of Delhi, North Campus, on September 2.
The volleyball championship began on September 3 and will continue through September 5.
The conference brought together community leaders, scholars, clergy, students and professionals for discussions centred on Naga unity, youth, identity, culture, leadership and community development.
The programme opened with a welcome by emcees Yanmila Shadang and Ngayaipam Shimray, followed by a rendition of “Wanghe Onching” by the Delhi Eastern Naga Student Union (DENSU) and an opening prayer led by Rev. Ringphangam Vashi, pastor of DCC.
In his presidential address, TNSD president Kahorngam Zimik recalled the history and contributions of the Society’s founding members and said the event was conceived to bring Nagas together through intellectual engagement and sports.
Sonia Muivah, wife of late Grinder Muivah, shared memories of his kindness, generosity and commitment to the community and urged participants to contribute towards the welfare of their respective communities.
A tribute song was presented by Thotmung Muivah, followed by an address by Phungreiso Varu on the life and legacy of Grinder Muivah.
A Prayer for Unity and Peace was led by Rev. Fr. Albert Lamkang.
The chief guest, Saleng A. Sangma, member of parliament from the Tura constituency in Meghalaya, stressed the importance of unity among the diverse ethnic communities of Northeast India. He also highlighted the region’s strength and potential when its communities work together.
The first session concluded with a prayer led by Rev. Kadimna Gangmei, pastor of Gospel of Grace Church.

The second session focused on the theme, “Youth at the crossroads: Identity, Employment, Migration and Community Development in Naga Society”. The session was chaired by Prof. Khole Timothy Poumai, with Prof. Yaruingam Awungshi as the speaker.
The following session, chaired by Dr. Pamreihor Khashimwo, featured Indian Revenue Service officer Ngahanyui Zimik, who spoke on “Youth, Culture and the Future: Strengthening Social Cohesion in Contemporary Naga Society”.
The third session featured a panel discussion on “Faith, Character and Leadership: Empowering Naga Youth for Society Building”, chaired by Dr. K. Kokho. The panellists were Rev. Fr. Ts Dominic, Prof. Benrithung Murry and Dr. Aphun Kamei.
TNSD vice-president Dr. Masot Zingkhai delivered the vote of thanks, followed by a concluding prayer led by Rev. Luther Chamroy, pastor of Tangkhul Baptist Church Delhi.
The conference was followed by the All Naga Volleyball Championship, which began on September 3 and is scheduled to conclude on September 5.
