Total shutdown hits normal life in Kamjong, Ukhrul districts

The 24-hour total shutdown imposed by ATSUM, KSO general headquarters, ANSAM, and ATSUM Federating Units in the wake of failure to arrive at desired understanding between the state government and student bodies in their discussion over HAC recommended Manipur (Hill Areas) ADC Bill 2021 on Friday had affected normal life of the district populace.

Kamjong and Ukhrul headquarters wears a deserted look as movements of people were strictly restricted by the volunteers. Vehicle also is staying off the road.

Sources said free passage were given to medical emergencies and fire services etc. “Shutdown was strictly observed in the two district headquarters.”

Government offices, educational institutions and commercial shops were completely shut in Kamjong and Ukhrul district headquarters responding to the apex tribal student bodies call for total shutdown in the hill districts of the state, sources added.

No untoward incidents was reported till the time of filing the report.

It may be mentioned that in a press communiqué issued by Khaiminlen Doungel, Information & Publicity Secretary, ATSUM on Friday stated that an official discussion between the state government and ATSUM, ANSAM, KSO-GHQ and ATSUM federating units was held at chief minister’s office on Friday at 12 noon in the presence of chief minister to discuss the HAC recommended “Manipur (Hill Areas) ADC Bill, 2021 on receipt of meeting invitation from the state govt.

The positions of both the parties were reportedly stated in the meeting but could not find any agreeable solution during the said meeting. Therefore, the announced agitations of the student bodies will go ahead as scheduled for 24-hour total shutdown with effect from November 19 midnight in all hill districts of Manipur.
