UKHRUL, March 20: One-day training-cum-awareness programme for Scheduled Tribe fishers and aspiring beneficiaries was conducted at DRDA Hall, Mini Secretariat, Ukhrul under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) of the National Fisheries Development Board (2025–26) and organized by the Office of the District Fishery Officer, Ukhrul/Kamjong.
Close to 50 farmers from Ukhrul and Kamjong districts attended the programme. The participation reflected growing interest among local communities in scientific fish farming and sustainable livelihood practices.
The event commenced with registration and an invocation prayer, followed by a brief inaugural session.

Roland Ningshen, SDO Chingai, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his speech he suggested the practice of Pisciculture in low lying river. “Schemes should be given to deserving person not to anyone. It’s not the number that is important but the person who has interest and passion who should be given the scheme. The Department should look into it,” said Ningshen.
Horeisung khamrang,DMM/MSRLM, Ukhrul attempted the programme as the Guest of Honour. The programme was overseen by District Fishery Officer A.S. Angam, with Suiyingchon A Chahong, Fishery Inspector, as the coordinator.
The technical session was the highlight of the programme. The resource persons shared practical knowledge and field-based experiences. Dr. Sonan Ngakang, Ichthyologist, spoke on the prospects of integrated aquaculture in Ukhrul and Kamjong under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), emphasizing its potential to enhance farmers’ income. Rockson Kashung, M.Sc (Fisheries), elaborated on coldwater fisheries and the benefits it offers in the region. Homhor Zimik, M.Sc (Fisheries), conducted sessions on pond management, feed formulation, and induced breeding techniques, providing practical insights for better fish production.
The participants actively took part in discussions and interaction sessions making the programme both engaging and informative. Certificates were distributed to all the participating farmers at the end of the programme. The event concluded with a vote of thanks and a benediction.

Officials expressed hope that such initiatives would go a long way in equipping farmers with modern techniques and boosting sustainable fisheries development in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
