Transformer Blast Causes Prolonged Power Outage in parts of Tamenglong Dist

Ukhrul, July 3: A major power outage has hit several parts of Tamenglong district after the lone 3.15 MVA, 33/11 kV transformer at the Rengpang control room suffered a critical failure on Sunday.

According to officials from the power department, the transformer tripped with a loud explosion at around 4:17 PM, causing extensive damage to the 11kV incomer panel. A follow-up attempt to recharge the system after panel installation work failed when the transformer blasted again around 12 PM the next day.

Sources also said that the control panel was completely burnt in the incident and that a replacement transformer is being arranged from Imphal. However, it may take up to five days for the new equipment to arrive and be installed.

Areas affected by the outage include: 132/33 kV Substation, Rengpang; 33/11 kV Substation, Tamenglong; 33/11 kV Substation, Tousem; 33/11 kV Substation, Khoupum.

    The technical team has already begun preparations for the installation of a new transformer, sources said. Official have appealed for public patience and understanding, assuring that every effort is being made to restore power at the earliest.
