Transport Minister Khashim Vashum flags off city bus services for various routes in Imphal

Imphal: Manipur State Transport, Government of Manipur launched “City Bus Service” and “Students’ Bus Service” for various routes today, with an aim to provide safe, reliable, affordable and sustainable public transport service especially to students. Transport Minister Khashim Vashum flagged off the bus services from MST campus at Moirangkhom.

The routes for “City Bus Service” are Imphal to Yairipok, Sekmai, Bishnupur, Lamlai and Leishangthem and the routes for “Students Bus Service” are Imphal to Kakching Lamkhai, Moirang, Sekmai, Lamlai and Mayang Imphal. Starting point for City Bus Service” are from GM hall, Imphal and Waheng Leikai parking. While for the “Students’ Bus Services”, starting point for Imphal to Kakching Lamkhai is Kakching Lamkhai, Imphal to Moirang is Moirang, Imphal to Sekmai is Sekmai, Imphal to Lamlai is Lamlai and the starting point for Imphal to Mayang Imphal is Mayang Imphal and their destination is the Eastern Gate of DM College.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Khashim Vashum urged the public to acknowledge and express gratitude to drivers, handymen and staff of MST for their untiring services. He also appealed to the drivers and handymen, especially those ferrying students to be extra cautious while on wheels. Highly efficient drivers and handymen might even get absorbed in the department, he added. The Transport Minister said efforts will be made to increase the budget of the Transport Department. The chief minister has been already apprised on various pending bills of the MST and a written letter will be submitted soon, he added.

Taking part in the event, Education (S) Director L. Nandakumar lauded the government for launching the bus services and said that it would be big help for students, especially those who have been affected by present unrest in the state. Transport Department Director Dr. Nivedita Lairenlakpam, top officials and staff of transport department attended the programme.
