AGARTALA: Taking decisive action on employment and infrastructure, the Tripura Cabinet approved 552 new job placements and sanctioned four new fire stations across the state on Wednesday.
Speaking in Agartala, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury also announced a major policy shift by confirming the end of the domicile certificate requirement for state jobs to honor constitutional guidelines set by the High Court.
Addressing a press conference, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury stated that the major recruitment drive covers several crucial government sectors. The Cabinet granted “approval for filling up of 185 post of Junior operator pump group C in the Public works department water resource” through the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura.
Furthermore, the Cabinet approved a “proposal for filling up of 310 nong post of Tripura Engineering Service Grade 5 A and Grade 5 B Junior Engineer Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical under Public Works Department Government of Tripura” via the Tripura Public Service Commission. This includes 195 degree-holder posts and 115 diploma-holder posts.
Additionally, direct recruitment was sanctioned for 57 vacant faculty posts, including 17 Professors, 20 Associate Professors, and 20 Assistant Professors at the RK Nagar Veterinary Science College.

Explaining the shift in job eligibility rules, Minister Chowdhury clarified that the mandatory Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate requirement was cancelled after a petition in the High Court cited a contradiction with Article 16(3) of the Constitution.
Under the revised norms, “the candidate must have completed regular schooling for at least 5 years in between Class 1 to Class 12 from a school, schools located in the state of Tripura” to be eligible for government jobs.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet approved a “proposal for waiving of allotment premium amount amounting to 33 lakhs 50 thousand 239 for allotment of land” measuring 2.5 ganda at Abhoynagar in favor of Commonwealth Games Judo gold medalist Asmita Dey for homestead purposes. To enhance emergency services, four new fire stations were sanctioned at Boxanagar, Manubakul, Ganganagar, and Garji.
Moreover, the government enhanced financial grants for ex-servicemen and their dependents, raising the emergency relief fund from Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000, increasing student scholarships, and raising the widow maintenance allowance to 15,000 rupees.
