UKHRUL: The Tripura–Mizoram natural gas pipeline being laid under the North East Natural Gas Pipeline Grid has achieved 45 per cent completion, PTI reported.
The project, targeted for completion by December 2027, involves a 119.5-km pipeline starting from the Panisagar receiving terminal in Tripura. The pipeline passes through Kanhmun, Zawlnuam, Kawrthah, Tuidam and Darlak before reaching near Mamit in Mizoram. From there, it will extend towards Lengte and terminate at the proposed Sihhmui receiving terminal, located about 21 km from Aizawl.
The pipeline is being executed by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGCL) and is expected to significantly enhance access to clean and affordable energy in Mizoram, particularly in and around Aizawl.
Gas supply to households within Aizawl will be provided from the Sihhmui terminal by Tripura Natural Gas Corporation Limited (TNGCL), which will oversee the installation of domestic pipeline connections.
Mizoram’s Civil Supplies Minister B Lalchhanzova visited Agartala on Wednesday to review the project’s progress. During the visit, he held meetings with officials of TNGCL and ONGC, inspected pipeline-related works, and toured a CNG station in the Tripura capital.
The minister also visited a residential complex in Agartala where around 330 households have already been provided gas pipeline connections, which officials said could serve as a model for the rollout planned in Mizoram.
Addressing a meeting with TNGCL officials, Lalchhanzova said the project would be a milestone for Mizoram, ensuring reliable and affordable gas supply for residents. He added that the gas would also be used for commercial, industrial and transport purposes.
