AGARTALA: The Tripura University campus in Agartala witnessed a peaceful mobilization on Tuesday as students gathered to demand a transparent examination framework and the resignation of the Union Education Minister, aligning their voices with activist Sonam Wangchuk.
The non-political demonstration, organized jointly by university students and research scholars, commenced from Building No. 11 and concluded in front of the Open Theatre. Carrying placards and banners, the participants called for systemic transparency in the examination system, the protection of student merit, and accessible, quality public education for all.
Prominently displaying banners inscribed with slogans such as “We Stand for Education” and “We Stand with Sonam Wangchuk,” the demonstrators urged the authorities to address the integrity of public testing systems. Moreover, the main banner carried by the gathering explicitly demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the issue of recurring examination paper leaks. Participants also held printed posters featuring caricatures of Wangchuk bearing phrases such as “All Is Not Well” and “Standing with courage, standing with truth.”

According to the organizers, the program was conducted peacefully to raise awareness on issues severely affecting students and to express solidarity with the ongoing movement for educational reforms. However, student speakers during the gathering alleged that an earlier effort to organize a peaceful rally on July 20 was disrupted and hijacked by members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
It is learned that student representatives strongly criticized attempts to label supporters of Sonam Wangchuk as anti-national. A student speaker questioned how an innovator known for national contributions could be branded as such, while also taking aim at the silence of established student organizations. The speaker noted that remaining silent during moments of crisis is equivalent to siding with the oppressor, emphasizing that their collective remains a non-political student initiative focused on securing a fair educational future.
