Two abducted, including village chief for a ransom of Rs 2 core in Ccpur

Churachandpur: The Zomi Chiefs Association (ZCA) in a release on Sunday condemned the forceful kidnapping of Kammuanpau, chief of MT Geltam village under Singngat Sub-Division, Churachandpur District in the strongest term and demanded his unconditional release.

The village chief was forcefully kidnapped by unidentified armed men on the night of June 11 from his residence, warning his family members and villagers of dire consequences if they report the matter to the security forces, the release added.

“The Zomi Chiefs Association (ZCA) cannot accept such unlawful and inhuman criminality on a Zomi chief and demand that  Pu Kammuanpau be released unconditionally; failing which, ZCA will not remain a mere spectator and will take all necessary measures to secure his release,” the release signed by president ZCA, Pumzadou Thangsing and general secretary, G Khamkhohau stated.

According to a news report in Chongthu News Service, unidentified gunmen kidnapped the village chief Kammuanpau, husband of Ngaiching and Goukhanthang, son of Kamzalian of Khajang village on Saturday night around 8 pm while the kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore for his safe release. It also reported that the vehicle used in the crime scene, a white colour Bollero has been recovered by Singngat police Monday morning near Thinghangjang.  However, the whereabouts of the two abducted persons are yet to known. Singngat police in coordination with other security forces have launched a massive operation to rescue the two kidnapped persons.
