Two more persons have died in Meghalaya due to COVID-19 related illnesses in the past 24 hours, taking the number of death toll in the state to 93 on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the state has also recorded 68 new cases of COVID-19 and 55 recoveries on Saturday.

The new cases include 24 from East Khasi Hills district, 18 West Jaintia Hills district, 9 Ri Bhoi district, 8 West Garo Hills district, 5 South Garo Hills district, 2 East Jaintia Hills district and 2 South West Garo Hills district.

Of the 55 COVID-19 patients who recovered from the infection, Dr War said 25 are from East Khasi Hills, 13 West Jaintia Hills, 12 West Garo Hills, 1 East Garo Hills, 1 North Garo Hills, 1 South West Garo Hills and 1 Ri Bhoi.

The state has detected a total of 10,047 COVID-19 out of which 995 are active cases, 8,959 recovered and 93 deaths.

Of the total active cases, East Khasi Hills has 260 positive cases that include 21 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 239 civilians, Ri Bhoi 281, West Garo Hills 142, West Jaintia Hills 108, East Garo HIlls 88, East Jaintia Hills 50, North Garo Hills 14, West Khasi Hills 14, South Garo Hills 18, South West Garo Hills 18 and South West Khasi Hills 2.

“Till date, swab samples of 2, 10,079 persons have been tested of which 2,00,032 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.

There are 56,057 entrants from outside the state.
