TYCM Urges no Bandh during Christmas, New Year Festivities

UKHRUL: The Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM), Council Headquarters, has appealed to all civil society organisations and groups to refrain from imposing bandhs or causing any form of disturbance between December 23, 2025 and January 5, 2026, citing the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

In a statement issued on Monday, the council said a large number of tribal people living in Imphal are permanent residents of remote and far-flung areas of the state. During this period, many travel back to their villages to prepare for and observe Christmas and New Year with their families and communities.

The TYCM noted that Christmas on December 25 and New Year on January 1 are among the most important religious occasions for Christians, observed only once a year. The festive season, it said, is a time for prayer, thanksgiving, family reunion and spiritual reflection after a year of hard work.

The council also appealed to the Governor of Manipur to ensure strict maintenance of law and order and to prevent any untoward incidents during the festive season, in the interest of public peace.

The TYCM expressed hope that all sections of society would cooperate to ensure a peaceful and disturbance-free atmosphere across the state during the celebrations.
