Shillong, Oct 29: United Democratic Party (UDP) leader and cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh today said his party is staying away from the bye-election to the Gambegre Assembly seat of Meghalaya, slated to be held on November 13, since its presence in the Garo Hills is very limited.

“We are staying away from the bye-poll, meaning we have nothing to do with the bye-poll at all,” Lyngdoh said when responding to a query if the UDP will extend support to the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) in the bye-election.
“And our presence in the Garo Hills is still very limited. Therefore, it makes no sense for us to be part of this bye election process,” he added.
