Ukhrul: Former minister RV Mingthing passes away at 92

Imphal: Former minister RV Mingthing from Ukhrul district has passed away on Monday late night in Imphal. He was 92.

As per family sources, he breathed his last at around 11:57 pm at his Lamphel residence.

Born on April 20, 1931 at Kuirei village, Mingthing who got elected as an MLA from Chingai constituency served as minister of state for Tribal Affairs and Sports from 1989 to 1990. Prior to that, Mingthing also served as chairman, Hill Areas Committee (HAC) of the Manipur Legislative Assembly from 1985 to 1989.

The Tangkhul Naga leader also served as the chairman of Autonomous District Council (ADC) Ukhrul district from the year 1975 to 1978.

Also, former acting president of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) RV Mingthing held post of president of the Manipur State Congress (MSCP) from 2004 to 2007.

Mingthing also held various important posts during his lifetime such as founding member of United Naga Council (UNC), an apex body of Nagas in Manipur and Lui-Ngai-Ni Festival in 1987.

He was also the vice-president of Senior Citizen for Society Manipur and Manipur State Scout Union as well as an advisor of All Manipur Student Guardian Association.

While expressing his condolences, Th Satyabrata Singh, Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly said, “I am saddened to hear that RV Mingthing, former Manipur State Congress Minister who hailed from Ukhrul breathed his last this morning at the age of 92 in his home at Lamphel.”

I express my heartfelt condolences on his demise and also share in the grief of his bereaved family members, he added.
