Ukhrul District Working Journalists Association (UDWJA) former President and senior journalist Thotshang Shaiza succumbed to Covid-19 after a prolonged battle at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) ICU on Saturday at 10:40 PM.

According to his family, he was referred to JNIMS on Thursday from Ukhrul District Hospital after his condition deteriorated. He suffered serious damage to his lungs after Covid-19 infection. He is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters.

Thotshang Shaiza was instrumental in founding UDWJA, the first journalist association in Ukhrul district and was the Advisor of the association. He served as the president of the UDWJA two consecutive terms. He was correspondent of the The Aja Daily and was an active member of Manipur Hill Journalists’ Union.

Thotshang Shaiza lost his older brother Late Phungton Shaiza on Thursday just two days ago.

Phungton was a founding member of Ukhrul District Passenger Service Association (UDPSA) and held the post of vice chairman of Hunphun Executive Council (HEC) as well as UDPSA’s incumbent Advisor.
