Ukhrul’s oldest woman dies aged 107

Ukhrul: 107-year-old, P S Zamthingla believed to be the oldest surviving person in Ukhrul district died Friday morning.

P S Zamthingla died peacefully of natural causes in her daughter’s residence at Hungpung village.

“Fiercely independent and strong, she was living alone. She enjoyed her independence,” said a family member.

The 107-year-old was the only daughter of Tuirumla and Mikheng Thingshung. She left behind 19 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren, according to family.

The photo was taken in 2016 when she was around 101 years old.
