UKNA Hmar ‘Army Chief’ Arrested in Ccpur; AK-47, IEDs Recovered

CHURACHANDPUR: Security forces arrested an alleged Army Chief of the UKNA (Hmar) from Churachandpur district and recovered arms and explosives based on his disclosure, Manipur Police said on Thursday.

The arrested individual was identified as RC Singson of Old Gelmol Village under Churachandpur Police Station. He was apprehended on August 5 during a security operation.

Acting on information provided by the accused, personnel of the 5 Assam Rifles recovered an AK-47 rifle with a magazine, a 9 mm pistol with a magazine, three improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two Baofeng radio sets and a smartphone from a forested area near Thingchawm Village in Churachandpur district.

Manipur Police said a case has been registered at Churachandpur Police Station under FIR No. 79(08)2026 invoking relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act, the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act and the Explosive Substances Act. Investigation is underway.

The recovered arms and explosives have been seized for further legal proceedings, police added.
