UKHRUL, SEP 8: The United Naga Council (UNC) will intensify its ongoing inter-district economic blockade from 1 am on Wednesday, stopping goods-laden vehicles on major National Highways across Manipur.
The decision was taken at the UNC’s Emergency Presidential Council Meeting held in Ukhrul on September 2, the council said in a press release issued on Tuesday. At the meeting, the UNC said it reviewed the government’s response to its demands over the May 13 abduction and killing of six Naga civilians at Leilon Vaiphei. The council has maintained that the government has failed to deliver justice to the victims and their families and has demanded action against those allegedly involved, along with the removal of deputy chief minister Nemcha Kipgen.
The blockade will cover NH-2, NH-202 (Jessami), NH-37 (Jiribam) and NH-102A (Tadubi-Ukhrul) and will continue indefinitely.
The UNC said vehicles carrying essential supplies and services, including medical supplies, media, power, telecommunications and water supply, will be exempted.
It also said the blockade was being intensified over the killing of six Nagas on May 13, 2026, alleging that they were “brutally killed, mutilated and dismembered”.
It described the blockade as a demand for justice and accountability and appealed to the public to cooperate until justice is delivered.

The blockade comes amid growing Naga anger over the May 13 killing of six Naga civilians following the abduction of 18 people from Leilon Vaiphei. Naga legislators have also demanded action against those named in the FIR and called for the removal or suspension of deputy chief minister Nemcha Kipgen pending completion of the investigation. The nine MLA abstained from the final sitting of the Assembly session on September 7 over the issue, saying justice had not been delivered nearly four months after the incident.
