In a statement, the UNC said, “With our heads hanging in shame and distress, the United Naga Council strongly condemns the inhuman act meted out to the Vaiphei women who were stripped naked, groped and paraded in a broad daylight on the highway towards a paddy field that outrages the modesty of the two innocent women by a radicalized mob in the cruelest manner on May 4, 2023 at B. Phainom village in Manipur”. The UNC also said the beastly act of “sexually assaulting right on the nose of the law enforcing agency and unleashing a reign of terror have shattered the basic principles of democracy”. The UNC further said the prestige and dignity of “our mother, daughter and sister” were wrecked beyond redemption. It further said the “horrifying act and humiliation” have replaced the beauty of womanhood.

The UNC then said no authority should ever allow the perpetrators involved in “such a heinous crime” to go scot free. It further said the government must initiate necessary steps for immediate booking of all the people involved in “such dehumanizing crime” and should ensure a trial in the fast-track court to deliver justice instantly. As such, the UNC added that the perpetrators involved in committing a “shameful act” should be given capital punishment to ensure that justice is delivered. “Turning a blind eye or being biased to such a crime is a blasphemy. Heaven forbid. The UNC fondly shares the pains and trauma of the victims,” it further added.
