It may be mentioned that the UNC during the bifurcation of 7 new districts in Manipur state in 2016 protested against the creation of the new districts in Naga areas alleging it encroaches upon the ancestral lands of the Nagas in Manipur. Aside from the creation of Noney, Kamjong, Tengnoupal districts, UNC vehemently protested against the creation of Jiribam district carved out of Tamenglong district and Kangpokpi distirct carved out of Sadar Hills.
