Union Home Secretary Visits Churachandpur Relief Camps, Felicitates 15 Students

Ukhrul, Jun 4: Despite living in relief camps, 15 students from Churachandpur proved that circumstances cannot dim determination, as they successfully cleared their board examinations and were felicitated by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan during his inspection visit to assess the welfare of internally displaced persons.

The high-level Central team, which included Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Kumar Deka, conducted a comprehensive review of two relief camps in the violence-affected district, inaugurating new facilities designed to support women and children while acknowledging the remarkable academic achievements of young survivors.

The visiting delegation, accompanied by Manipur Chief Secretary P.K. Singh, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, and Churachandpur Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S, along with other state and district officials, began their inspection after landing at the 36 Assam Rifles helipad at Headquarters Veng.

Their first stop was the Relief Centre at Dorcas Veng, New Lamka, where the Union Home Secretary inaugurated a creche facility for children and a women’s tailoring program. These initiatives represent the government’s focused approach toward empowering the most vulnerable sections of the displaced population, particularly women and children who have borne the brunt of the ethnic violence.

The team subsequently visited the Relief Camp at Sadhbhavna Mandap, Tuibong, where Mohan inaugurated a creche-cum-children’s library, further strengthening child-focused support infrastructure at the facility.

The highlight of the visit was the felicitation ceremony for students who had excelled in their studies despite the challenging circumstances of displacement. Of the 15 students honored, five were from the Dorcas Veng camp and ten from Sadhbhavna Mandap, Tuibong. These young achievers had successfully passed the HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) and Higher Secondary Examinations 2025.

Meanwhile, in a special recognition of academic excellence, the Union Home Secretary also awarded certificates to one Class I topper and one Class III topper from each camp.
