Veikhang Katamnao Long Celebrates 78th Naga Independence Day in Choithar Village

The Veikhang Katamnao Long on Wednesday commemorated the 78th Naga Independence Day at Choithar village.

The event featured Lieutenant General (Retd) N.G. Markson (VC), Steering Executive Member of NSCN/GPRN, as the Chief Guest, and Colonel Yaomi Mashangva (MSM) of NSCN/GPRN as the Guest of Honour.

In his speech, Lieutenant General Markson urged the people to collectively fight for the cause of the national movement, emphasizing the sacrifices made by their forefathers. He briefly mention about how the struggle for freedom began.

“Our forefathers have sacrificed the best of their lives and went through ‘Blood, Sweat and Tears’ to build the foundation of Naga people as a nation,” Lieutenant General Markson said. “78 years down the lane we have not lost the courage and spirit of freedom had not waned,” he encouraged.

Stating that the Nagas have paid heavy price for the love of their freedom, he said, “Unless we struggle ourselves, unless we defend our freedom, we risk becoming a lost people.”

Veikhang Katamnao Long felicitated 54 national workers from Veikhang Area for their dedication to defending the Naga homeland. The event concluded with the slogan “Kuknalim.”
