Veinii Suffix from Purul brings laurels at GAMMA World Championship

Senapati: Veinii Suffix Th Vainah, aged about 22 years belonging to Poumai Naga community won bronze medal at the recently concluded Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA), World Championship, 2022 at Amsterdam. Veinii is the son of Thole from Purul village.

On his return from Amsterdam, the bronze medalist was accorded a warm reception at Imphal Airport by the Poumai Naga Students Union (PNTU) along with its federating units and subordinates including the Purul Youth & Students Organization (PYSO).

Mention may be made that Veinii Suffix had also achieved different medals in the past including bronze medal in Judo(State Level) in 2010; bronze medal in Wushu (State level) in 2013 and represented Manipur University at All India University Championship held at Haryana in 2017; bronze medal in Boxing (State level) in 2018 and Gold medal in Kick Boxing in Bidang Club War, Guwahati in 2019.

The local fighter had recorded 15 fights at GAMMA World Championship 2022 with 13 wins and 2 loss in straw weight category. Veinii Suffix beat Robin Chautard of France in his first bout at the world championship.

However, he was handed a lost in a close bout with Oryntayev Yermakhan of Kazakhstan who was crowned the gold medalist.

24 countries represented in the GAMMA World Championship 2022 which was the biggest world event for amateur MMA.

According to a source from PNTM, it is reported that an official felicitation program will be organised very soon where all the excellent sports persons of Poumai Naga will be acknowledged, said the source.
