UKHRUL: The Central Village Defence Force organised a road march in Churachandpur under the theme, “Justice for all Martyrs and expedite Political Autonomy,” in remembrance of the sacrifices made by all the martyrs during the outbreak of violence in Manipur on May 3, 2023. Late Vungzagin Valte was solemnly acknowledged.
The peaceful road march started from the PT Sports Complex, New Lamka, and culminated at Lamka Public Ground. Thousands gathered witnessing speeches from representatives of the Zomi Co-ordination Committee (ZCC), CVDV and various other Zomi frontal organisations. A flying lantern was released honouring the martyrs from the Zomi community who died.
A gun salute to the martyrs followed. The ethnic clash resulted in the deaths of many, rendering many more homeless from their villages. Amid songs echoing calls for unity, the Zo reiterated their demand for separate administration in Manipur.

The Chairman of ZCC, in his address, mentioned the talk he had with Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, in which the Chief Minister promised justice and further talks. Gousuan Valte, son of Vungzagin Valte, remembered his father’s legacy stating that he had been an exponent of peace for the Kuki-Hmar-Zomi- Mizo. He added that he was ready to carry forward his legacy with the help of the community.
